Unit Conversion
about...
This page will help you work out the transformation from one unit of measurement to another. On SydneyAtoZ pages we used the international system of measurements where practical. If the figures are underlined with a dotted line, hover with the mouse the underline words and you will have the figure displayed using a different measurement unit.
In case neither of the measurement units are familiar to you, use this page to convert it to a measurement unit you know.
distance
The distance between two points is the length of a straight line between them. In the case of two locations on Earth, usually the distance along the surface is meant: either "as the crow flies". The international unit for distance is the meter(m).
temperature
Temperature is a measure of how fast the particles in a body are moving (or vibrating). The international unit for temperature is
°Kelvin.
weight
The weight represents the vertical force exerted by a mass as a result of gravity. The international unit is the kilogram.
volume
The volume represents the amount of 3-dimensional space occupied by an object. The international unit for volume is cubic meter (m
3).
speed
Speed is the measure for the distance travelled per unit of time. The international unit is
m/sec.
area
Area also called surface is a two-dimensional extent or the outside of any three dimensional body. The international unit for area is
m2
flow
The rate of a fluid discharged from a source, expressed in volume with respect to time,
eg,
m3
